Work Day Schedule
Elk Creek in Chippewa County
Saturday, February 8th from 9am-1pm
People are asking if we can do some work on Elk Creek, which has some sections that badly need maintenance. So we’re going to have a couple work days there this winter. On Saturday, February 8 we’ll need 8-12 volunteers to come out and drag and stack brush, operate the brush saws, treat stumps and also tend the bonfire as we will be burning our slash piles. We also need 2-3 chainsaw operators who have completed DNR chainsaw safety training. Lunch will be provided. We’ll start at 9AM and work until 1PM, but you can join us whenever and leave when you must.
LOCATION: The northern end of Elk Creek, working south of the 80th Street bridge just west of County T. Click here for a map of the exact location. Park along the shoulder on either side of the bridge, just as if you were going fishing.
WHAT TO BRING: Dress warm but be prepared to remove layers. Wear old clothes that you don’t mind getting a few burn holes in because you will get some. Leather gloves and sturdy footwear are a must. The snow might be deep so winter boots and/or gaiters are a good idea. Don’t forget to bring water to drink as you will get thirsty even in the cold. Chainsaw operators are encouraged to bring their own chainsaws, but we’ll have chaps, helmets and and fuel.
ALL ARE WELCOME: Work at your own pace and don’t feel bad if you need to rest or knock off early. The point is to have fun, get outdoors and feel rewarded by the act of increasing angler access.
